Republican ‍leaders in Congress are ​nearing a resolution ‌aimed ​ending a partial government shutdown, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday (February 2, 2026).

Mr. Trump ​told reporters ⁠that he had spoken with House ​Speaker Mike ⁠Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune ‌and thought “they’re ‌pretty close to a ‍resolution.”

A partial shutdown took ‍effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time (0501 GMT), but it is expected to ⁠be brief, with lawmakers ​from both parties working ⁠to reach a deal.
