Linktree, a popular ‘link in bio’ service used by a variety of influencers, businesses, public figures and political parties, has been unblocked in India, the firm’s co-founder and chief executive officer Alex Zaccaria told The Hindu on Friday.
“We did experience a temporary disruption in access to Linktree in India,” Mr. Zaccaria said. “Service has been restored for the majority of users, and our teams are continuing to monitor and support those that might still be experiencing issues.”
The Hindu had first reported the website’s blocking on Saturday. A Department of Telecommunications official indicated that the blocking was issued by a security agency, though they did not indicate which one. Mr. Zaccaria did not have an immediate response on who was responsible for the blocking of the site, which counts the BJP among its user base.
“As a gesture of our appreciation [for users’ patience], we are offering impacted users three months of our paid subscription at no cost,” Mr. Zaccaria said. The site appeared accessible on ACT Fibernet, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio’s networks on Friday evening.
