Life insurers in India reported new business in FY26 rose 15.70% year on year to ₹4,59,713.41 crore.
It was a year when the insurers emerged from the new surrender value norms, introduced in October 2024, impact by tweaking strategies. While the change dominated the first few months of the fiscal for them, the second half saw the insurers seeking to make most of the government exempting, effective September 22, 2025, individual life policies from 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST).
