Despite the high of a stunning 417-run chase against India-A in the second multi-day fixture, South Africa-A will look to start afresh in the three-match One-day series at the Niranjan Shah Stadium here from Thursday.
Visiting captain Marques Ackerman described the two ‘Tests’ in Bengaluru — where the teams shared the series 1-1 — as a success but said the focus has now shifted entirely to white-ball cricket.
“We are coming from a lot of cricket — domestically and the two four-day games. The spirits are high, and we’ve had two good days of preparation. Looking forward to a very challenging and tough opposition,” Ackerman said on the eve of the first One-dayer.
India-A boasts several high-profile names in its squad, including Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Arshdeep Singh. But Ackerman was confident that his team would stick to its plans to put the hosts under pressure.
“We’ve looked at some footage of them. They are superstars who’ve played a lot of T20 cricket. This is 50-over cricket — a new game. What they’ve done in the IPL doesn’t matter. We know they are strong and aggressive players,” he said.
For several South Africans, this tour marks their first experience of playing in India, and Ackerman admitted that adapting to the conditions took some time.
“Just experiencing a different climate and acclimatising to the wickets was challenging at the beginning,” he added. “There are a lot of exciting young guys coming through the ranks.”
