The death ​toll from a ‌fire at ​a shopping mall in Karachi rose to 11, a ​police official told ⁠Reuters on Monday (January 19, 2026), a ​day ⁠after flames tore through the complex in ‌the historic ‌downtown district, reducing ‍parts of the building ‍to rubble.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said on Sunday (January 18, 2026) that more ⁠than 60 people were ​missing.

A massive blaze was reported in Pakistan’s largest city on Saturday (January 17, 2026) that reduced parts ‌of the Gul Plaza shopping mall to ​rubble in Karachi’s historic downtown.

Videos showed flames rising from the building as firefighters laboured through the night to stop the fire from spreading in the dense business district. Hundreds of ​people had gathered around the building, ⁠including distraught store owners whose businesses had turned to ash.
