Beijing said on Friday (January 30, 2026) it would take “necessary measures” to protect its companies’ interests after a ruling by Panama’s top court annulled a concession allowing Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison to operate ports at the crucial Panama Canal.

Noting CK Hutchison had said the ruling lacked legal basis, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a regular briefing: “The Chinese side will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.”
