It was an inspired performance from FC Goa, but it was not enough to get its first point of its AFC Champions League 2 campaign as the side succumbed to a 1-2 loss against Al Nassr at the Fatorda Stadium here on Wednesday.

Angelo Gabriel and Haroune Camara found the net for Al Nassr, while Brison Fernandes scored the only goal for Manolo Marquez’s men.

The breakthrough came in the 10th minute as Al Nassr’s pressure pegged the Goa players inside their own half.

Abdulrahman Ghareeb found Angelo at the edge of the box with a deft pass. The Brazilian then dragged the ball away from his marker with a brilliant touch and dispatched a curler from the edge of Goa’s penalty area to find the net.

Al Nassr got its second in the 27th minute. Angelo’s slide rule pass found Ayman Yahya inside the box, who squared it to Camara. Despite having plenty of time to clear the ball, the Goan defence allowed Camara to shoot on the turn, leaving Hrithik Tiwari helpless against the powerful, well-placed shot.

The host pulled one back in the 41st minute as Brison brought the roof down at the Fatorda. Dezan Drazic made his way inside the final third as Brison made a supporting run to his left. The Serbian rolled the ball to an overlapping Brison, who cut in to beat Abdulelah Al Amri and curled the ball to the far corner with an excellent finish.

It was a dull start to the second-half as the away team continued to dominate possession. But off the pitch, there was cause for excitement for the crowd as Sadio Mane, Joao Felix and Kingsley Coman started to warm up.

The football faithful got their wish when Felix and Mane came on in the 66th minute amidst a sea of cheers from the FC Goa fans.

While Goa’s defence held on to prevent Al Nassr from extending its lead, the Gaurs ended their match on a chaotic note after David Timor got a straight red card in additional time for dissent.

The result: FC Goa 1 (Brison 41) lost to Al Nassr 2 (Angelo 10, Camara 27).
