The Writers Guild of America has unveiled the much-anticipated nominations for the 2025 Writers Guild Awards. In the Original Screenplay category, nominees include A Real Pain, Anora, Challengers, Civil War, and My Old Ass. Meanwhile, the Adapted Screenplay contenders feature A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two, Hit Man, Nickel Boys, and Wicked.
Notably, some of the season’s top awards hopefuls, including The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Sing Sing, and The Substance, were ineligible for WGA recognition in either category.
On the television front, Fallout, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Shogun, and The Simpsons lead the pack with three nominations each. They are closely followed by The Bear, Bob’s Burgers, English Teacher, and Hacks, which received two nods apiece.
This year’s announcement faced multiple delays due to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, which have significantly disrupted the awards season calendar. Originally set for January 9, the WGA nominations were postponed twice before finally being revealed on Wednesday.
The WGA joins a growing list of organizations adjusting their schedules in response to the fires. The Producers Guild and Oscars have also pushed back their announcements, with Oscar nominations now set for January 23. Despite these disruptions, major ceremonies like the Grammys on February 2 and the Oscars on March 2 remain on track.
