Israel launched strikes on Iran on Saturday (February 28 2026) leading to a broader military conflict involving the U.S. and left the world concerned about a bigger West Asia conflict.

Several of Iran’s top political, spiritual, military leaders and scientists have been targeted by Israel, both in the June 2025 conflict and 2026 attacks.

Here are all the Iranian leaders killed by Israel: 

Ali Hosseini Khamenei

The former Supreme Leader of Iran was killed on February 28, 2026, in Israeli strikes, creating a vacuum in the political leadership of Iran. Khamenei became the Supreme Leader of the country in 1989, after the revolutionary founder Ruhollah Khomeini’s death. He was the commander-in-chief, with the final say on all policy and religious matters. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) answered personally to him.

Ali Shamkhani 

Ali Shamkhani, a long-serving and highly influential figure in Iran, was reportedly killed on February 28, 2026, in Israeli airstrikes.

Shamkhani was a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and served as the country’s Defence Minister till 2005. In his final months, he was a key figure overseeing negotiations with the U.S. regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

Abdolrahim Mousavi 

Abdorahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of Iran’s armed forces, was killed on February 28, 2026, during Israeli airstrikes. 

Just days before his death, Mousavi had issued several warnings to the U.S., stating that any military confrontation would be an “unforgettable lesson” for President Donald Trump. He was central to modernising Iran’s drone and missile deterrent strategies. 

Amir Nazirzadeh 

The Iranian Minister of Defence Amir Nazirzadeh was killed in Israeli airstrikes on February 28, 2026. He also served as the Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) from 2018 to 2021.

Mohammed Pakpour 

Mohammad Pakpour, the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed in Israeli airstrikes on February 28, 2026.

He was the Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces till 2025, when he assumed the role of the overall chief in June 2025, following the death of his predecessor Hossein Salami. 

General Hossein Salami 

Hossein Salami, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed on June 13 2025, during a large-scale Israeli military operation, codenamed ‘Operation Rising Lion’, that targeted the IRGC headquarters in Tehran.

Salami is widely known for his rhetoric against the U.S. and warned just before his death that Tehran would “open the gates of hell” if attacked. 

General Mohammed Bagheri

Gen. Mohammed Bagheri, the former Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the country’s highest-ranking military officer, was killed on June 13, 2025, during a major Israeli military operation targeting Tehran.  Bagheri was under multiple sanctions, both by the U.S. and the European Union. 

General Gholamali Rashid

Gen. Gholamali Rashid, the former head of the Khatam Al-Anbia Central Command Headquarters, was killed in Israel’s ‘ Operation Rising Lion’ on June 13, 2025. 

He was tasked with planning and coordinating joint military operations among the country’s armed forces.

General Amir Ali Hajizadeh 

General Hajizadeh led the IRGC Aerospace Force from 2009 until his death on June 13, 2025 and oversaw the country’s entire ballistic missile and drone programmes.

General Mehdi Rabbani 

Gen. Mehdi Rabbani was the Deputy of Operations of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, and was killed in Israeli airstrikes on June 13, 2025. 

Rabbani was a key architect of Iran’s internal and regional military strategies, including oversight of militia networks in Syria.

Fereidoun Abbasi-Davani

Fereidoun Abbasi, the former head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) was killed on June 13, 2025. 

He was one of Iran’s foremost nuclear scientists and was the head of AEOI till 2013. 

Following his tenure at the organisation, he was elected as a member of the Iranian Parliament. 

Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi 

Mohammad Tehranchi was a prominent theoretical physicist and a key Iranian academic figure who was killed on June 13, 2025. He was the President of Islamic Azad University, one of the world’s largest higher education networks, until his death.

Amir Hossein Feqhi 

Amir Feqhi was another prominent nuclear engineer and academic who was killed on June 13, 2025. 

At the time of his death, he served as the Vice-President of AEOI and was the head of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute.

Reports identified him as a key technical figure involved in refining Iran’s uranium enrichment efficiency.

Akbar Motalebizadeh 

Akbar Motalebizadeh was a senior Iranian nuclear scientist and chemical engineering specialist who was killed on June 13, 2025 by Israeli airstrikes.

He served as the head of the ‘Shahid Karimi Group,’ an organisation focusing on advanced weapon technologies.

Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari 

Ahmad Zolfaghari, a prominent Iranian nuclear scientist was killed on June 13, 2025, during Israeli airstrikes. 

At the time of his death, he was a professor of nuclear physics at the Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

Western intelligence identified him as one of the few Iranian experts capable of nuclear bomb yield calculations.

Ali Bokouei Katrimi 

Ali Katrimi was an Iranian physicist, specialising in nuclear physics and explosives technologies. He held various roles in Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes.

He was killed in the June 13, 2025, attacks by Israel.

Saeed Borji

Saeed Borji was a senior member of S.P.N.D. (the Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research) and an explosives trigger expert who played a pivotal role over the past two decades in Iran’s development of technologies related to nuclear bomb detonation.

He was killed on June 13, 2025, during Israeli airstrikes. 

Mansour Asgari 

Mansour Asgari was the head of the Research and Technology department of the S.P.N.D. He was an expert in building technologies crucial for the detonation sequence of a nuclear weapon.

General Mahmoud Bagheri 

Gen. Mahmoud Bagheri was the former Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. A veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, he was considered the top military brain and a key strategist for Iran.

He was killed on June 13, 2025, during Israeli airstrikes. 

General Davoud Sheikhian 

General Sheikhian was a senior commander of the I.R.G.C.’s Aerospace Force and was killed on June 13, 2025, in Israeli airstrikes. 

General Mohammad Bagher Taherpour 

Gen. Taherpour was a senior commander in the I.R.G.C. and was killed on June 13, 2025. He was identified by Israel as one of the six most senior military commanders killed during the strikes, a move intended to cripple Iran’s military capabilities.

General Mansour Safarpour 

Gen. Safarpour served as Brigadier General within the I.R.G.C. ‘s Aerospace force and was killed on June 13, 2025, by Israeli airstrikes.

General Masoud Tayyeb

Gen. Tayyeb served as a spokesperson for the I.R.G.C. Aerospace Force and was killed on June 13, 2025, by Israeli airstrikes

General Khosro Hasani 

General Hasani was killed on June 13, 2025, by Israeli airstrikes. At the time of his death, he served as the Deputy head of the I.R.G.C.’s Aerospace force. 

General Javad Jarsara 

General Jarsara served as a spokesperson for the I.R.G.C. Aerospace Force and was killed on June 13, 2025, by Israeli airstrikes.

General Mohammad Kazemi 

General Kazebi served as the commander of the I.R.G.C. ‘s Intelligence Organisation from June 2022 until his death on June 15, 2025, from Israeli airstrikes. 

He was reportedly close to the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and was responsible for monitoring dissent within the military. 

General Hassan Mohaghegh

General Mohaghegh served as the Deputy Head of the IRGC Intelligence Organisation and was considered as the man behind Iran’s internal security and counter-intelligence strategies. 

He was killed on June 15, 2025, in Israeli airstrikes.

General Mohsen Bagheri 

General Bagheri was the Head of the Quds Force Intelligence Division and was responsible for providing intelligence and operational support to members of the “Resistance Axis,” including Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis among others. 

He was killed on June 15, 2025, in Israeli airstrikes.
