Since last season, Yash Rathod has hardly put a foot wrong. Having topped the Ranji Trophy run-charts (960 runs) and guided Vidarbha to the Ranji Trophy title, Rathod has continued that purple patch in the new season.
He started with a 194 in the Duleep Trophy final for Central Zone, followed by a 91 for Vidarbha in the Irani Cup. On Monday, he scored his second century of the season in as many games, putting his team on the verge of a big win against Tamil Nadu.
“I was getting balls in my range, so I capitalised it. I love to dominate spinners, and this is what I did there, and I am pleased,” said Rathod about his knock.
Last year, Rathod revealed his focus was to convert starts into tons, and he achieved that, getting five, including one each in the quarterfinals (vs TN) and the semifinals (vs Mumbai).
Though he topped the run-charts, Rathod missed out on India-A opportunities, and the 25-year-old felt that his focus is now to ensure he gets the big knocks to move higher.
“I was a bit disappointed when the team was out, but after one or two days, I thought these things are not in my control. The only thing I can do is I can perform consistently, get better every day and knock that door.”
