Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) advanced to the final, while Minakshi Hooda (48kg) became the fourth Indian woman to enter the semifinals and ensure a medal at the World boxing championships in Liverpool on Friday.
Jaismine comprehensively beat another Paris Olympian Omailyn Alcala 5-0 in the last-four and set up a summit clash with Poland’s Olympic silver medallist Julia Szermeta.
In a repeat of their World Boxing Cup semifinals in Astana, World Cup medallist Nupur defeated Turkish Seyma Duztas 5-0.
A 52kg Asian silver medallist in 2022, Minakshi outsmarted the 19-year-old home challenger Alice Pumphrey 5-0 in a 48kg quarterfinal bout.
She will take on Mongolian former Worlds and Asian medallist Altansetseg Lutsaikhan in the semifinals. Jaismine relied on her mobility and threw scoring punches from a long range to keep her Venezuelan opponent in check. in the opening round. The southpaw mixed single punches with combinations to stay ahead in the next.Even though Omailyn landed some head shots, Jaismine maintained her tempo to finish with a favourable verdict.
Nupur showcased her hit-and-move long range game well against her stocky Turkish opponent to win all three rounds with unanimous decisions.
The taller Minakshi displayed her agility and boxed beautifully from a distance to deliver jabs and combinations accurately on World under-19 champion Alice. When the Englishwoman tried to catch up, the Indian withstood the pressure to win the contest.
Jadumani Singh (50kg) fought bravely against 2023 World champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan before losing 0-4 in the quarterfinals.
