U.S. President Donald Trump was frustrated with billionaire Elon Musk, but doesn’t want a long-term feud with the entrepreneur and big campaign donor, Vice President J.D. Vance said on Wednesday (June 11, 2025).

Mr. Vance told reporters that he has spoken to both Mr. Musk and Mr. Trump about trying to ensure Mr. Musk’s support for the president, adding that the Trump team was grateful for what Mr. Musk did early in the process of making the government more efficient.

Mr. Musk on Wednesday said he regretted some of the social media posts he had made about Mr. Trump, saying they had gone “too far,” a gesture the U.S. president described as “very nice,” in the latest sign of a tentative reconciliation between the two.

According to one White House source, Mr. Trump received a phone call from Mr. Musk on Monday (June 9, 2025) before the billionaire expressed regret.

The White House said that Mr. Trump appreciated Mr. Musk’s apology. The administration has made no efforts to review government contracts with Mr. Musk’s companies, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also told reporters at a briefing.
